New Linear Optical Encoder to16 Bit Binary, or BCD Converter Board

Contact me: clicking my E-mail Image

  • There was a need to redesign the Serial to 16 Bit Binary, or BCD Encoder Board because Through Hole Devices are disappearing rapidly and new better performance devices coming on line.

  • The new design is using all Surface Mounted Components, including 15A MOV devices for Lighting and transient voltage protection.

  • The new componets also includes a much faster ATMEL EPROM (45ns) and very stabile Quadrature converter IC LS-7184. It also allows for a X1, X2 & X4 Multiplier.

  • RS-422 is incorporated, rather that RS-232 as was used in previous design adding greatly enhanced noise rejection over much longer distances........Please see comparison Document. Also the RS-422 pulse train relative to Single Ended Pulse train.

  • This new board will directly replace any existing Encoder Boards with one small exception, and that is the installion of two (2) extra two conductor lines to the field Encoder/Inclinometer to accommodate the extra dual ended Quadrature Pulses developed by the field Line Driver.

  • For a NEW Instillation this mean a shielded 6 conductor, rather than the earlier 4 conductor field lines....... For 3 pair shielded cable go to Jameco Electronics, this is excellent cable and has been in service here since 1992.
  • The simplest Install is to simply run a Single Shielded Pair of Conductors for the DCV and move additional wired to saute RS-422......By far soupier to RS-232 and US Digital A2, Noise beining the biggest factor.

  • My First New F1EHN Tracking System with New F1EHN & LCD Installed.

  • Want to know why I did not chose a PIC Device???.......very, very simple, a PIC has a very limited number of times it can be written to and read from Memory, thus eliminating the use of Memory for storing Data that is constantly being written with any single bit change as required for Touch Memory storage applications. Without this feature there would be NO resemblance to an Absolute Encoder using Linear Optical Encoders.

  • Optical Linear Encoders are still BY FAR the most cost effective method of obtaining 16Bit Nearly Absolute Resolution for 0.01 Degree Array/Dish Auto Tracking. Plus the added flexability and extremly NON-CRITICAL gearing ratio to Mast....can be nearly anything, or fraction of...............10:1, 8:1, 11:1.........how about 21.555: 1...still OK.
Cost is up due to Price Increases & delivery Cost
  • COST, Only $192.75USD For the 4 Boards, including Card Edge Connectors shown in Picture, Plus Shipping.
  • Completely Tested with the New Binary 16Bit Parallel coding for 0.01Deg resolution.
  • Or new AZ/EL BDC Code for the VK3UM Tracking Board, or simply BCD Display for Manual Tracking to 0.1Deg resolution. Your choice.
  • To Place an Order please go here and send the E-mail Form,
  • Kit Cost including all Components, with 2 X SM IC Sockets Mounted plus Programed EPROM $180.00USD Plus Shipping. Much nicer, better and Less Costy than the Original Board
